He lists Salvador Dali, Gustave Doré, Albrecht Dürer, and Alphonse Mucha as highly influential. Mattison also gets ideas from Japanese pop culture. A native of Hawaii, he began on his professional path after graduating from Mililani High School, securing an apprenticeship with Honolulu’s South Pacific Tattoo Company. He later became Co-Owner of the shop and garnered attention for his abilities in Polynesian-inspired tattoos.

Before founding The Little Tattoo Shoppe in Portland, Matthew Mattison joined local parlor TigerLily Tattoo. When not conducting consultations with patrons, tattooing, or managing the day-to-day transactions of his store, he enjoys sharing his artistic abilities as a face painter during block parties, spending time with his wife, building vintage motorcycles, and traveling.
